Roku Arrives And Completely Owns Apple TV

Said honestly I’m not hot on the idea of little digital boxes to rent movies from. However there are companies who feel there is a market for this.

When Apple first released Apple TV it crashed and burned so hard sales-wise it was a wonder they even kept it around for more than six months. Then they re-did the way the service works by putting a very heavy effort into renting movies. This was the correct thing to do and sales started to pick up.

Now there’s an alternative, the Netflix Player. CNet wrote a story about this and you can see a photo of it here. It looks very similar to a plain-jane cable box. There’s no fancy styling, no “cool” factory to it whatsoever. It just does what it does.

Why does it own Apple TV? It’s only $99.

However there are drawbacks for the low price. There’s only a smattering of the Netflix library in it (for now) and no HD.

But get this: Unlimited streaming. That’s what makes this a good buy.

If the Roku box is not your cup of tea but like the price, wait. Netflix says there’s going to be more box choices (from other manufacturers) very soon.
