Take Advantage Of Energy Saving Features In Windows Vista

Posted Jan 2, 2008 by Jason Faulkner

Keeping on the theme of making your computer more energy efficient, those of you who are running Windows Vista can take advantage of many of the new power saving features which were implemented. Among the notable items included in the article are:

  • Group policy settings to control all client machines (for system administrators).
  • Command line configuration tool (powercfg.exe).
  • Improved default settings.

Unfortunately, the paper does not go into detail about these items as it’s main focus is on how investing in setting up a energy saving scheme can effect both the environment and the bottom line. There are several charts and formulas used to show how making these changes can really make a difference. Although some of the machine specs and statistics used are somewhat dated, the principle message is solid.

Although the article is specifically for Windows Vista, it is well worth the read regardless of what OS you are using.

This is the "kitchen sink" e-book for computer maintenance and repair. A jam-packed 346 pages. As Monte Russel (the author) says in his e-book, "Computers have always been complex, but if a guy that grew up out in the boonies in Wyoming can fix 'em, you can also!" Monte is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he served a long career as a computer repair tech and network administrator. LEARN MORE
