Text Messaging via Email

Did you know it is possible to text message someone from your email account? Almost all of the major cell phone providers have an email address set up so that you can send and receive texts to phones. Let’s say for instance you need to get in touch with someone, but you have your laptop and not your cell phone on you. Or, in other situations, if your friend has unlimited texts and you have a limit, why not save your texts and use email? It doesn’t cost you anything and you can send and receive just like you would on a normal cell phone. Not to mention, you will save your fingers from being sore from texting!

Here is a basic overview of the different carriers for SMS and MMS via email.

Sprint:

[10DigitNumber]@messaging.sprintpcs.com

T-Mobile:

[10DigitNumber]@tmomail.net

Verizon:

[10DigitNumber]@vtext.com

AT&T:

[10DigitNumber]@mobile.mycingular.com

Just replace [10DigitNumber] with the ten digit phone number you are trying to reach (area code + local number).\

If you do not know the carrier, or do not want to try to remember the address of the person you are trying to reach or do not want to print the list off to remember, there is another way you can text via email.

A service called Teleflip allows you to send emails to its domain and let it figure out which provider is used. It will also forward any replies back to your email address. This service will allow you to send up to 1,000 messages per month for free. After that, you can subscribe to their premium package to get unlimited messages.

    yes, when reporting on those kond of services, you should mention if they US based only, as you do have subscribers all other the world, not just in the US. This said, it is true that text messages are just emails.

    DON’T do what I did! I put my sons number in my address book, not paying attention to what changed when I sent him some E-mails, they went to his phone. He got 28 text messages and he’s not very happy with me!!!

    Do not have this feature set on your cellphone SPAMMERS can then send you txt messages and use up the number of txts you are supposed to get.

    I started receiving unsolicited txt messages this way without ever giving anyone permission or my number.

    The way to stop spamming txt messages is to go online to your carrier and set up so that your phone cannot receive txt messages from the internet/email only directly from other phones.

      that is for a multi media message but (10digit #)@txt.att.net is for regular texting
