On Reddit I saw this thread which may be of interest to some. As far as I’m aware, it lists all the web sites out there that people (meaning anyone) can use to perform background checks.
Some don’t mind being listed on sites like these while others really take offense to it. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, it’s good to know where you’re listed.

What’s a much, much easier way not to be listed?
The way sites like the above get your personal info is from you being listed publicly somewhere, namely the phone book.
If you have a publicly listed phone number in the phone book, you can stop being indexed in pretty much all data-gathering web sites in one fell swoop by switching your number to unlisted. This will not get you magically delisted from the above sites should you be in any of them, but it should stop data-gathering sites from indexing you in the future.
