If it is old and reputed one then it's fine to buy your UPS but if not then get the recommendation from the company.

First thing one should do is to check the company whether it is old or not. Undoubtly Tripplite have come a long way in 98 years, with not as half as much of advertising and still turning over $400 million a year. How can you decide which one is better? is to try it! ask for a test unit and see for yourselves its not just quality but fantastic customer service too. You will find key features on the the more cost effective Tripplite models than you would find on any other manufacterd UPS.

Hi Richard,

I am a representative at Tripplite and i have read your comments and see you prefer APC. <br

I lost a computer one time because lightning struck the building during a thunderstorm, and the computer went dead, so every since then, I have always unplugged my modems and computers during thunderstorms to avoid this again. For clarification, it didn't knock out my entire computer. Just the modem and my ethernet card.

Wow this is a neat post. Sorry I left that part out of my comments. The second time, I did not have an extended warranty and it was still replaced free of charge. I believe I just happen to get the right customer service person on the phone to handle this for my company at the time. I will agree that APC UPS are top of the line. The customer service people were also willing to share some computer tips as most of the computers had the software for monitoring insalled but had never been configured properly. Finally, I assisted an friend in Liberia, West Africa get warrenty replacement parts but they had to pay for the shipping. It was still cheaper than replacements. Go figure. Just my two cents of computer tips and information for the day.

Well in my case, They just replaced the battery because it was originally purchased with an extended warranty. After the warranty period of 2 years we need to go for the AMC to get free replacement of the parts (batteries not included) and after 1 year from the purchase date their is no garuntee for the battries we need to get it replaced.I've no option. I had to go for the APC UPS because it is the only make of quality service and product in my locality.

Yes Richard. APC is undoubtly trust worthy UPS. Not only did they replace the 3 year old battery but also assisted with the disposal of the old damaged battery. I was provided with a box and return labels to ship the old battery back to them free of charge. I have not tried any other brands except APC. I have heard that Tripe-lite is now better than APC in quality. I do not only measure a company on quality but customer service and their long term warranty policy. Which company do you think is better, APC or Tripe-lite? I am going to put my money on APC on this one. How about you?

I had a similar experience with APC as well. Was your UPS covered under AMC or extended warranty? APC doesn't give more than 1 year warranty for batteries.

Even I had an UPS fry after a power surge but the APC is asking me to go for a new UPS instead.<br

APC has the best policy on battery replacement. I had one UPS fry after a power surge in one my offices and APC replaced the five year old battery with no questions. The best computer tips I can give is the one that I have experience myself. Great post on this blog.

When I buy UPS, I stick with the name brands on this one. APC, Tripe-lite and Belkin.
