Trunk.ly Makes For Easy Bookmarking

On the heels of the upcoming demise of the Delicious bookmarking service comes Trunk.ly. How this service works is ridiculously simple and useful at the same time – a good combination.

The way to use Trunk.ly is by doing the following:

  1. Get a free account.
  2. Authorize either your Twitter, Facebook, Delicious account or all three.
  3. There is no step three – that’s it.

Trunk.ly then scans your stuff for any links and indexes them.

You can choose to make what shows up on your Trunk.ly profile (like mine at http://trunk.ly/menga/) public or private, so privacy concerns are met. Given the way the service works, it’s all-or-nothing style, meaning all-public or all-private. This is very similar to how Twitter works.

Trunk.ly also has basic social features built-in with the ability to follow and be followed.

What makes Trunk.ly different from Twitter or Facebook?

Simple answer: It grabs the stuff you link, and only the stuff you link. If there’s not a link in what you post, Trunk.ly won’t index it. This is genuinely useful because oftentimes you will want to know what you linked out before. Were you to do it the traditional way, you have to wade through tons of status posts you made, including the ones that didn’t contain links at all. With Trunk.ly, it’s "noiseless" way of links-only/bookmarks makes finding the links you posted super-easy.

Searchable, too? Why yes, it is.

Important note: Trunk.ly is brand spanking new, so if you want to give the site admins a few comments or suggestions after trying it out, be sure to see their about page for contact info.
