Turn Off Auto Hyperlinking in Word

Posted Nov 29, 2004 by David Risley

There are times when one does not wish to have MS Word automatically change a Web site address or E-mail address into a hyperlink displayed with a blue underline. See this tip to learn how to undo the change or to turn off that AutoCorrect feature.

To undo the change, simply select Undo (or use Ctrl-Z) from the Edit menu.

To turn off this feature, select AutoCorrect… from the Tools menu. On the AutoFormat As You Type tab, remove the check next to Internet and network paths with hyperlinks. Do the same on the AutoFormat tab, and click OK.

PCMech Highly Recommends...

This is the "kitchen sink" e-book for computer maintenance and repair. A jam-packed 346 pages. As Monte Russel (the author) says in his e-book, "Computers have always been complex, but if a guy that grew up out in the boonies in Wyoming can fix 'em, you can also!" Monte is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he served a long career as a computer repair tech and network administrator. LEARN MORE
