Turn Off Low Disk Space Warnings in XP

Posted Oct 14, 2004 by David Risley

In Windows XP, you will get warned by a little balloon popup when your available disk space on a particular drive gets low. Some people may be well aware of this and don’t need to be continually bothered about it. Here’s how to fix it.

Click on Start | Run, type Regedit, and click on OK. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT _USER\ Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. If there’s no DWORD value there, create a new one called NoLowDiskSpaceChecks. Once you are in the Explorer folder, select Edit from the menu, select New, and choose DWORD value. Now double-click on the new DWORD and assign it the value 1. Log off and log on once more, and you won’t receive the warning again. Note that the warning will be turned off for all your hard drives.

PCMech Highly Recommends...

This is the "kitchen sink" e-book for computer maintenance and repair. A jam-packed 346 pages. As Monte Russel (the author) says in his e-book, "Computers have always been complex, but if a guy that grew up out in the boonies in Wyoming can fix 'em, you can also!" Monte is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he served a long career as a computer repair tech and network administrator. LEARN MORE
