How To Turn Off Website Prediction In Google Chrome

When you’re typing an address into the address bar, Google Chrome will often suggest websites to you. While I myself find this feature pretty handy, I can see why some folks wouldn’t.

Maybe the suggestions it offers are so off-base that they aren’t even worth checking out. Perhaps you don’t like the fact that the entire address bar balloons out to take up half your screen whenever you type in it. For whatever reason, you don’t want Chrome offering helpful hints regarding where it thinks you’re going.

It’s actually very easy to disable this feature. Here’s how:

1. Access The Google Chrome Options Menu

See that little wrench on the top right? Click it, then click on “options” on the context menu that pops up when you do.

2. Select The “Under The Hood” Tab

This one’s pretty self explanatory. Go to the “Under The Hood” Tab on the menu that appears on the left of the screen.

3. Clear Your Browsing Data

For some reason, Chrome might still autocomplete if you have prior browsing data on your system. To be safe, clear out your browser history.

4. Turn Off Website Prediction

Under the “Privacy” header, you’ll see a list of options with checkboxes next to them. The second item on the list is the one we’re after- “Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLS typed in the address bar.’ Click on the box so that it’s no longer checked, and then close the tab.

4. That’s it! You’re Done!

Now, Chrome will no longer offer website suggestions when you enter text into the address bar.
