A Better Text Editor than Notepad

Posted May 6, 2006 by David Risley

For those of you still using Notepad (a great program by the way), just know there are much better free alternatives out there. My personal favorite is EditPad Lite ([http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html]) which offers unlimited text size, tabbed documents, line numbering and many other options Notepad doesn’t have.

For you programmers, be sure to check out jEdit ([http://www.jedit.org/]) for a more full featured (but slower) text editor. It offers syntax highlighting, FTP options, and tons of search/replace features. Since jEdit is built of off Java, it can be run on any platform.

PCMech Highly Recommends...

This is the "kitchen sink" e-book for computer maintenance and repair. A jam-packed 346 pages. As Monte Russel (the author) says in his e-book, "Computers have always been complex, but if a guy that grew up out in the boonies in Wyoming can fix 'em, you can also!" Monte is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he served a long career as a computer repair tech and network administrator. LEARN MORE
