I had to pass this one on. It is a review of Windows XP, posted over at Coding Sanity. It was written on Friday. You would think that a review of Windows XP would be old, but you would be wrong. What I found just ingenious about this article is that it is completely tounge-in-cheek. It is written from a modern standpoint, as if Windows XP is the successor of Windows Vista.
The conclusion of the article sums up the tone of the entire review:
To be honest there is only one conclusion to be made; Microsoft have really outdone themselves in delivering a brand new operating system that really excels in all the areas where Vista was sub-optimal. From my testing, discussions with friends and colleagues, and a review of the material out there on the web there seems to be no doubt whatsoever that that upgrade to XP is well worth the money. Microsoft can really pat themselves on the back for a job well done, delivering an operating system which is much faster and far more reliable than its predecessor. Anyone who thinks there are problems in the Microsoft Windows team need only point to this fantastic release and scoff loudly.
You gotta love it.
On a side note, I was trying to help my grandfather yesterday with his computer. Unfortunately, be bought a new computer that came with Windows Vista. Poor guy. The thing was unstable as hell. I was trying to take care of something for him in Outlook and it crashed so often I was forced to give up. He had a tech guy from Circuit City over the day prior and the guy charged him $240 to set up this computer, and it was an unstable piece of crap. We found at least two expensive software titles that he was going to have to upgrade in order to even WORK with Vista.
I left him with this XP machine working well. He’s going to have to fork over at LEAST another $450 to upgrade software to even make his Vista computer useful to him.
Do not move to Vista unless you’re ready to sink more funds into it than you expected. Just trust me on that one. Even then, it won’t work as well as XP.
