Have you ever been downloading a file and about 80% of the way, something interrupts it? This can be frustrating because (most of the time) you simply have to start the download again. For small files, this is not really an issue, but for larger files it can be a huge inconvenience. As an alternate to traditional downloading via a browser, try using a download manager.
Download managers commonly include one or more of the following features:
- Pausing the downloading of large files.
- Resuming broken or paused downloads (especially for very large files).
- Downloading files on poor connections.
I have had to frequently download large virtual machine images (which are at least 5 GB in size) and I wouldn’t even think of download one without using a download manager. An interrupted download 4 GB into the process will ruin your day.
So if you have the need, you can check out a list of free download managers and not have to worry about interrupted downloads again.
