Using KeePass Password Generator Profiles

Due to the recent debacle with Hotmail (as well as Gmail, Yahoo and AOL) account credentials being leaked, using a password manager now is more important than ever. I recommend using KeePass Password Safe. One feature in this software is the ability to use password generator profiles. This makes for password changing easy and quick when you need to do it.

For example, Hotmail and AIM/AOL Mail only allow for 16-character passwords. If you set a password generator profile to only generate passwords of that size, any new password you create will always work.

See video above for details. Creating passwords in this fashion makes them a whole lot easier to manage.

  1. I think it is best to write down all your passwords on paper for teo good reasons. Accessing them is not computer dependent. There is no way anyone will ever be able to hack into a piece of paper.

  2. I think it is best to write down all your passwords on paper for two good reasons. Accessing them is not dependent on your computer working, the internet working or someone else’s computer working. There is no way anyone will ever be able to release it over the internet nor be able hack into a piece of paper.

  3. I use Handy Password manager, because it has built-in random password generator, which allows creating really strong passwords. In random password generator, you can specify how many characters you want in your new password and whether you want to use capital letters, numerals and symbols. Passwords are stored in encrypted database, it is quite secure, isn’t it? And I don’t have to remember them or write down on a paper, which can get lost easily.
