Whenever taking screencasts of an OS that isn’t Windows 7, I’m using VMware Player to do it with. I’ve been holding out with version 3 for the longest time, but I finally decided to upgrade to 5 and there’s a feature called Unity. No, it’s not like Ubuntu’s Unity at all. What Unity in VMware Player allows you to do is run apps from Windows 2000 or greater directly inside the Win7 environment as if they are running independently (similar to how the VMware Fusion product does it). Check it out for yourself in the video below. For running older XP apps in the Win7 environment that won’t run in Win7 natively, this is a good way to do it all for free.

I have a need for this for some old Win 2K programs that I had set up inside VMWare– except I was running the VM window open. I really didn’t have a clue as to what Unity was!
Now I can run those old programs like regular programs!
