If your PC does not display file extensions, open My Computer and open the View menu (Windows 98) or the Tools menu (Windows Me/XP). Select Folder Options and click the View tab. In the Advanced Settings list, clear the Hide File Extensions For Known File Types checkbox and click Apply. To make this change effective for all folders, click the Like Current Folder button (Win98/Me) or the Apply To All Folders button (WinXP) near the top of the Folder Options dialog box. Click Yes to confirm the change and click OK to close the Folder Options dialog box.
