Over the years, I have dealt with Dell sales quite a bit for ordering servers, desktops, laptops, monitors, (you name it). Last week, however, I dealt with Apple sales for the first time on purchasing a refurbished laptop with a 3 year warranty for my wife. One “trick” I have learned is that even though you can purchase everything through the respective website easily, it is always in your best interest to call sales.
The reason is simply because if you ask for a discount, you will usually receive one. Basically I just call ask if there is anything they can do to help lower price as an incentive for me to buy today. Usually that is all it takes and I have received up to 15% in discounts just for asking. In dealing with Apple, they gave me a 7% discount off my total order, again, just for asking.
While this is not a guarantee to work and a lot of it depends on your order amount and what you are ordering (for example, usually you can get quite a bit knocked off any warranty purchase), it is well worth the 15 minutes it takes to call.
