Personally I much prefer MySpace to Facebook. I have a myspace account as Shazzalive, but I hardly ever use it. I closed my Fecesbook account down last year because I thought it sucked with a vengance...Nothing beats Twitter! - Ok - microblogging: different ball-game; but I use WordPress for "macroblogging".

As far as the calander thing I really think google calander and facebook are much better for letting your friends know about events, and shows. Inviting people through facebook is much easier. Facebook is also a little more professional. Back when facebook wasnt for everyone it had a core group of graduated young proffessionals. Everyone and thier mother uses myspace and it is grossly abused.

I had a MySpace Music account for a few years, but have since closed it. I just could not believe how much ridiculous SPAM came from the internal side, itself. I received email, IMs, and event invites of every sort from people that I didn't even know. People would post comments on my page to satisfy their own agenda about whatever they happened to be selling. Sorry, but the social aspects are not worth it. I will stick with Facebook for now.

I still don't like MySpace even though I have just recently started using it to keep in touch with old friends that I would not have another way of talking to.

I ended up finding a cousin on there as well and he uses it for his photography business because his clients prefer to use MySpace for that. Not sure why, but now I realize it might be because of the reasons you stated above.
