New from the Goog is Google Play. That link describes this service as:
Google Play is your one-stop shop for all your favorite entertainment. With over 450,000 apps, millions of songs and books, and thousands of movies, Google Play has something for everyone.
Does this describe what Google Play is? Nope. The above is nothing but typical corporate-speak that says nothing. But I’ll tell you what Google Play is. A cloud player.
In the second paragraph ("The power of the cloud") on the same page as linked above, that describes somewhat what Google Play actually is but not really.
Put in plain English, Google Play is Goog’s attempt to have you use their service for all your online entertainment wants and needs, as in apps, books, movies and music. And of course, Goog shoves the "SHARE!" thing at you (something we’re all really sick of) so you can tell Goog exactly what you play, read, view, etc.
Everything you do in Google Play revolves around a Google account. Some of you may find this attractive because Goog has tried in their best effort to make this as all-in-one as possible.
Will people gravitate towards this iTunes/Kindle-ish thing? I have no idea because it’s brand new.
I haven’t used Google Play yet but wanted to inform you about it. If you’re a Googler and love everything they do, you’ll probably like Google Play a lot.
Example of what it looks like when you’re logged in:

Admittedly, it’s a a nice design because it doesn’t look like the rest of Goog’s offerings. Colorful, cheerful, big buttons, it all works.
On a final note, even though Google Play doesn’t explicitly state that it’s for smartphones and tablets only, that’s what the service is geared towards – although you can use it on a regular PC or laptop easily.
