My computer has some cosmetic changes, just like everything else. Looks
pretty good, same features. Although, on the left hand side, there are some
useful icons added in, convenient shortcuts for search and system properties.
Help has been updated into a totally new system. It has a lot of nice
"browser" integrated features that I feel would be very useful
to anyone. Almost like a control panel, hard to get lost in this help
system, a far better system that ones we have previously come to know.
Control panel has a nice new look and upgraded features. Allowing user to
change appearance of control panel more than before. For those comfortable with
the "old" style, it gives you the option to view it that way also.
Device manager is pretty much the same, although there is now a
"processor" tab, but did not relay any info about my processor.
Internet Explorer is of another beta variant. A few cosmetic differences, not
a lot of new features that I could find.
Whistler is based on the NT kernel, revamped and supports ntfs security.
Which is something business users will appreciate.
Another feature included is "remote desktop". Which is basically a
type "terminal services" or thin client, that not all of us will use,
but for those of us who get calls late at night, it’s nice to
"dial-in" or "vpn" to work instead of making the trip.
A long awaited feature also implemented is a personal firewall. Why has M$
not done this until now? With the "broadband" era here, this is
something we will all need, if you don’t have one already. Wonder how long it
will take for this to be fully customizable and let us configure our own port
security?
