Why Technorati Sucks – For Now

Technorati is the Google of blogs. It is used as a benchmark, in many cases, on how popular a blog site is. You would think they have their spiders out there working correctly, but apparently they don’t. So, at least for the time being, I think Technorati is a big, unmanageable beast. Why is that?

PC Mechanic is not listed in there. They have it confused with “PCMechTV”, a site which was merged with this one a long time ago. The weird thing is that they actually have many of PCMech’s stories showing up under PCMechTV, with a screenshot of the old PCMechTV site. In my
Technorati profile, I have PC Mechanic clearly set up and “claimed”:

Technorati Claimed Blogs

They have the right title in there. They have the right URL. But, yet when you go to view the page for pcmech.com, you get this:

PCMech Not Found

So, they have it in their database, but no they don’t. Confused yet? I am. Oh, and yes, I did try the “ping us”. It doesn’t work. Besides, PCMech pings Technorati every time something is posted – which is a few times per day. So, they’ve gotten a LOT of pings from PCMech, yet we’re not in their index. At least properly.

And here is the kicker: PCMech isn’t exactly a small website. PCMech has no official presence on Technorati, yet I would venture to say that this site is one of the largest and most trafficked technology blogs online today. Our conversion to the blog format was recent, so perhaps we are still getting grooved in in this arena, but we’re still pretty big.

I can’t make sense of it. I have emailed Technorati to get this fixed and I hope they respond soon. Judging by the support forums, there are a LOT of people out there having problems getting their sites indexed, claimed, you name it.

Sadly, I am experiencing the same issues as you. I once ranked in the top 10,000 back in 2007 or so. Now I have an authority of “3″. This all started for me in January of 2009 when I began forwarding my jessicadoyle.dotCA to my new home of jessicadoyle.dotCOM. Sadly Technorati support doesn’t seem to exist. I took out a support ticket 8 weeks ago with no response. Then updated my support ticket 2 weeks ago with no response and my email bounced back to me.

Today I opened a forum post under my Technorait user name of vanesica in hopes that an admin will respond to me and help solve the issues. I’m willing to learn what needs to be done to fix the problems at hand whether it is a snippet of code to add or…

It seems though, that if you, someone who is ranked much higher than me is experiencing the same issues as I with support, then perhaps Technorati is not equipped to handle the State of the Blogosphere.
