Window’s bells, Hard drives whirl, modems dial away!

Once again everyone, thanks to companies like Wal-Mart and Hallmark, it’s Christmas time, 2 months early.  And what’s on the mind of most people on the internet?  What to get their favorite techie for Christmas.  I’ll attempt to give you a list.  First off, I’d just like to say that before you buy for your favorite techie, you must find out what’s compatible with their computer, and what isn’t.  Remember that the computer industry is a world of fast change, so Memory you buy now won’t work with a machine you bought 5 years ago.

Favorite gift of the season:
Nifty Mouse.
Come on now, what techie isn’t complete in the mind of others without a mouse with all the bells and whistles.  Microsoft’s new Intellimouse with Infra-red technology is a good choice.  Some might prefer something like a scroll-ball, where the whole mouse doesn’t move, just a ball inside the mouse.  The Logitech or Microsoft Trackball is always a good choice.  Also, if you’re strapped for cash, you might want to consider getting a Track-Wheel mouse, which go for around $20.

Other gift ideas:
What if you’re techie already has a cool mouse?  Here are some more ideas for the holiday season.

  • ZIP Disks: If your techie has a ZIP Drive, he could always use more disks

  • Blank CD-Rs: A techie is always recording stuff to CD, might as well help his habit in the spirit of giving.

  • Games: Find out what the techie likes to play, and get him the newest game in their favorite genre

  • xDSL or Cable Modem Service for a month: Contact a local ISP of xDSL or Cable modems and find out if they sell gift certificates.

  • Gift Certificate to local PC shop:  Go to the PCs shops and see if they sell gift certificates, also the Best Buy Gift care makes a great gift to techies :)

Intel Bashing
What editorial isn’t good without some bashing of either Microsoft or Intel?  Being I favor the products from M$, I figure I better do some Intel bashing.  WHEN WILL THEY EVER COME OUT WITH SOMETHING ACTUALLY NEW.  The new Pentium iii Coppermine processors are still based on the almost 5 year old Pentium Pro Processor, which was basically based on the AMD K5 processor.  COME ON INTEL, WE’RE DYING FOR SOMETHING NEW.
