Windows Disk Cleanup

Posted Jan 18, 2007 by David Risley

While there are dozens of disk cleaning or garbage file removal programs out there, one which gets little mention is the Disk Cleanup utility included with Windows.

With this utility you can remove the following all at once:
- IE Temporary Internet Files (cache)
- Recycle Bin
- Office Setup Files
- Temporary Windows Files
- Old Restore Points
- Unused Programs
- Much More

Once Disk Cleanup scans your hard drive, it gives you a summary of how much space you can free up (you will probably be surprised). Additionally, clicking on each item gives more information on what it does so you are not just removing files haphazardly. For most computer users, this will be an adequate system maintenance tool for removing accumulated junk.

Disk Cleanup is located here: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools
