Windows Users Frustrated over Vista SP1 Delays

When Mike Nash, from the Windows Product Management Group at Microsoft, posted to the Windows vista blog, he probably didn’t realize he was going to cause such a reaction. See, after giving a lot of corporate-speak about how great Vista is, he provided a timeline for the release of SP1 that was, essentially, a delay of six weeks.

In short, SP1 will hit Windows Update in mid-March, but users using drivers known to be problematic will not see the release as available to them. A month later, it will be available as automatic updates in Windows Update. Anybody using one of those problematic drivers will not see SP1 until Microsoft determines they have fixed the driver problems. Who knows when that will be.

Users responded with frustration…

Wait, what?

"In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com."

So it’s done … but we won’t be able to actually get it for another six weeks? That would be incredibly frustrating.

I understand that it won’t be pushed via Windows-Update right away.

But why would we have to wait another six weeks for a download center download?

and

Thats got to the most stupid thing i’ve read yet….

WHAT DO YOU THINKS GONNA HAPPEN TODAY/TOMORROW >????

It will be on bit torrent and other sites LEAKED

Face the facts you have a download everyone wants they are going to get it however they can.

Do you really want that to be the way your customers get their major updates ????

WAKE UP!!!

This guy is right, as Gozmodo is already reporting SP1 has been leaked to BitTorrent. And it goes on…

I strongly agree… Waiting until March to release it on Microsoft.com is a mistake! If it’s done, even if it’s only the English version, get it out the door as quickly as possible! Otherwise, what was the point of announcing it so early, if nobody can get it for 6 weeks?

If only Microsoft had the marketing savvy of Apple. It  is quite obvious that they don’t. Vista is such a disappointment, and them taking this long to put out the first major update is just ridiculous. And to announce that it is done, but users can’t get it for six weeks, is like hogging a canteen from a person dying of thirst.
