Yahoo just flipped the switch on it’s new Yahoo Live service. I’m not exactly sure why the company wanted to get into this arena, especially considering how much it sucks compared to the likes of Ustream.
For those not familiar, this is a service (free one, though), which allows you to broadcast live over the Internet using your webcam. It uses the Flash plug-in (which almost everybody has) to connect to your webcam and grab your feed. Then, anybody can watch what you’re doing and converse with you in chat.
It is kinda cool, and look for us to implement something like this here on PCMech.
That said, Yahoo Live blows. I tried it last night:
- It is slow as hell
- It locked up and simply would NOT broadcast my feed.
- At one point, the image stuck although it was still getting audio.
- It doesn’t record live sessions.
- It’s ugly.
