Lots of them, with many valid scientific goals (developing cures to diseases, nanotechnology, predicting the future climate, running simulations for particle accelerators, etc)Many are backed by Universities, the NST, and other big names. The link below has a basic list:http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php

Just to let you know, there are a Distributed Computing Projects other than SETI out there. Another option for defragmenting automatically is PerfectDisk (www.raxco.com), which also provides total free space consolidation and defragmentation of all NTFS metadata, in addition to defragmentation of data files.Joe Abusamra

I have been procrastinating the job of analyzing my drives to see how much the fragmentation disease has struck them, i think if i postpone anymore, its going to be difficult to free up space later. Would be a good idea to run a Disk Cleanup prior to it i guess.

I think these are absolutely fantastic things to do while the PC is idle, the first 3 being critical in keeping the PC running zippin fast for longer periods. You can simply turn it on and let it defrag automatically when the system is idle. I have left it this way, and it works fine without slowing down other stuff. For scheduled BT downloads, utorrent has a good scheduler built-in. Always works when I set it for bedtime. You can even use full speed, limited speed or turn off the download during that period.

Actually, you don’t even need to schedule an automatic defrag job with Diskeeper, although that option is available.
