YouTomb Tracks Taken-Down YouTube Videos

Posted May 21, 2008 by Rich Menga

Those crazy wacky guys at MIT are at it again, this time with a system that tracks YouTube videos that are taken down for copyright violation.

Want to see it? Of course you do. Here you go: http://youtomb.mit.edu/

There are a few things you’ll immediately notice about this site.

First, it’s a bit slow to respond. But don’t fret, it will eventually.

Second, the best part is the big “2″ on the right that shows real-time (I think) copyright violations taking place. IT NEVER STOPS. Ha! :-)

I don’t think YouTomb monitors everything but its currently monitoring a good chunk of vids out there.

The internet has answered yet another question. Can copyright infringement be entertaining? Yes.

I wish you could search the whole site for individual videos you KNOW have disappeared from YouTube. Or am I missing something? I tried!
