Basically, an ATX motherboard is a motherboard which is in ATX format meaning that it fits into ATX format Cases. The same goes for AT motherboards. One thing you have to remember is choosing the right size case, because not all motherboards fit in all cases. Some motherboards can be small and compact (i.e. micro-atx motherboards), some can be mid-sized (i.e. mid-atx motherboards), and some can be normal size, (full-atx motherboards, or something like that).

The wrist strap is to ground you out so you don't zap your components with built up static electricity (a good way to kill a stick of ram) & you clip it to the frame of your case not the motherboard.

In my case (Cooler Master Ceturion) there is cable running from the front panel audio plugs. On the end of that cable is a connector labled HD Audio. My motherboard (ASUS P5Q Pro) has a front panel audio connector (10-1 pin AAFP). And so I plugged the HD Audio connector into the Mobo AAFP connector.

It is my understanding that the legacy standard was AC'97. My mobo will support either AC'97 or HD Audio.
