Our builder has been using Hitachi SATA drives for a while now, and they seem to be reliable and fairly quiet. I still don't trust their IDE drives after the Deathstar debacle. To be honest, the only SATA failures I've seen so far have been Western Digital JD series drives, but I haven't worked on too many SATA setups yet. I've worked with some Raptors, they have all whined but I haven't seen any that clatter. Seagates have been almost deathly quiet. No Maxtor experience yet. WD Raid Editions (SD I think) are workhorses but noisy.
