1. 6 prong power adapter:

2. Recheck the jumpers and cabling on the DVD drive and any other drives on the same channel in both computers.

3. Check the jumper on the Maxtor, sounds like the cylinder limit jumper is installed. Either that or you are trying to set up a FAT32 partition, 32gb is the limit there with XP, you need to use NTFS.
