Pull out the manual for that motherboard and it will tell you how to setup the bios to recognize a single SATA drive. It's also possible that the drive must be on a particular SATA connector, 0 instead of 1, for everything to work.
I think you need drivers with a via board when use SATA, whether or not it's RAID, but I'm not sure so check the manual for that as well.
