Reinstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview
If you want to reinstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview (or install a new version) you must first remove the existing Internet Explorer 7 version. You cannot install Internet Explorer 7 over itself.
Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
Click “Start,” and then click “Control Panel.”
Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
Check “Show Updates” at the top of the dialog box.
Scroll down the list to “Windows XP – Software Updates,” select “Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2Preview,” and then click "Change/Remove."
If "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" does not exist, run %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. You need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.
Installation Errors
If you receive notification that the installation failed you should reboot your system to ensure that any changes made during setup are completely undone.
For more information on the problem, you can refer to the log files at:
%windir%\ie7beta2_main.log
%windir%\ie7bet2p.log
%windir%\ie7bet2pUninst.log
where %windir% is the location of your Windows directory, which can usually be found at C:\Windows.
If you receive the error "Setup was unable to open the log file for writing: C:\WINDOWS\ie7beta2_main.log", log in with a user account with administrator privileges and re-run IE 7 setup.
Uninstalling Internet Explorer 6 updates
Updates associated with Internet Explorer 6 will remain in Add/Remove Programs after Internet Explorer 7 is installed. If these updates are removed, your system will likely become unstable or unusable. Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 should return the system to a working state.

Known Issues in Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview:
The following open issues in Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview will be addressed in Beta updates. We are mentioning them here because we think they may impact Beta 2 Preview customers.
NEW (2/10/06)--RSS icon feed detection--Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 preview uses a link in the html of a web page to generate feed auto-discovery. If a page doesn't have the link element, IE7 does not detect the feed. See the IE Blog entry for details.
NEW (2/06/06)-Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT)--Version 4.0 of the ACT does not support Internet Explorer 7 Beta Preview compatibility logging. ACT 5.0 will support IE7 logging.
NEW (2/06/06)--Turbo Tax Online--It is not possible to log on to the TurboTax online web site (
http://www.turbotax.com/tax_producti..._products.html) from a system running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview. This is a known issue with the User Agent String in IE7 Beta 2 Preview. Until a fix is available, you can spoof Internet Explorer 6 by running
http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx and you'll be able to access the Turbo Tax.
NEW--Text does not display on first entry or refresh on edit when user edits a form or a wsywyig editor window. The workaround is to press enter, which causes the text to appear or refresh.
NEW--Attempts to view MSN Messenger Logs generate an XSL error. To work around this issue, configure MSN Messenger to store logs in a folder, without any spaces in the path to that folder.
NEW--When viewing certain RSS feeds, images may not appear correctly or may move around on the page. Resize the window to get the RSS feed page to layout correctly. This issue will be addressed in an upcoming release of IE7.
NEW--The user is not prompted for credentials when visiting an authenticated FTP site in Internet Explorer. This is a known issue, and the workaround is to enter the credentials into the FTP URL directly; e.g.
ftp://username
assword@example.com
NEW--McAfee products may display a blank window when IE7 B2P is installed. This is a known issue and we’re working on a fix for the next public release.
NEW--Timeouts were changed in IE7 B2P and a page which takes more than 30 seconds to render will result in a “page cannot be displayed” error page. This is a known issue and we will make a change for the next public release.
NEW--Beta Security Issue known and fixed in next public release--A security issue was reported to crash IE 7 Beta 2 Preview and be exploitable to execute arbitrary code on the user’s computer. The bug was evaluated and considered not exploitable, by default, and is known and fixed in the next public release of Internet Explorer 7. For more information, see the IE Blog Entry.
When using Freedom Scientific’s JAWS® for Windows screen reader with Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, you might encounter the following issues with shortcut keys. Please see the Accessibility section for important information about installing JAWS.
JAWS 7 does not display the contents of individual frames when a page contains a frame set. To work around this problem, copy psapi.dll from the \WINDOWS\system32 directory to the directory where JAWS is installed.
JAWS 60 reads incorrect information for Select Control with Say Line and Say Control Hot Keys, because of the new Internet Explorer 7 Select Control. There is no current workaround for this problem, but Freedom Scientific is working on support for the new Select Control.
CTRL+F opens the Internet Explorer Find dialog box rather than the JAWS Find dialog box. To work around this, use INSERT+CRTL+F.
INSERT+A does not move the JAWS cursor to the Address bar. To work around this, use ALT+D to set focus on the Address bar
Repair Install of WinXP does not work after Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview is installed. Remove all versions of Internet Explorer 7 before you attempt to run Repair Install. (See section on Uninstalling IE7.)
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) cannot import spreadsheets when Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview is running.
During setup, a checkbox with the MSAA name of "I" is displayed immediately after Windows Genuine Advantage validation has completed. This checkbox is checked by default and reads as follows: "Install the latest updates for Internet Explorer, and download and run the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (recommended). Installing the latest updates and the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool will help Internet Explorer install successfully by removing existing malicious software and protecting your computer against security threats.
Installation of Microsoft Money 2005 or 2006 SBE on Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview may require a system reboot. An error appears on login when the system is rebooted. If Microsoft Money is installed before Internet Explorer 7, no reboot is needed.
Web Site Connectivity Issues
Proxy Connectivity - If you notice a problem connecting to web sites after upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, and you are navigating through a Proxy, it may be due to Auto Detection problems.
Launch the Internet Control Panel by clicking "Internet Options" From the Internet Explorer Tools menu.
Navigate to the Connections tab
Under Local Area Networks (LAN) settings choose LAN Settings
In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog, Uncheck "Automatically detect settings"
In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog, Check "Use a proxy server for your LAN" and specify a proxy server
Click OK, OK
You will now be able to navigate to internet sites.
Internet Connection Settings - If you notice a problem connecting to web sites, it may be due to the upgrade changing your Internet Explorer 6 Internet Connection settings. To rectify the problem, take the following steps:
Launch the Internet Control Panel by clicking "Internet Options" from the Internet Explorer Tools menu.
Navigate to the Connections tab
For each connection in the "Dialup and Virtual Private Networks" list, click the "Settings" button
Verify that "Automatically detect settings" is checked. If not check it
Click the "Lan Settings" button in the Connections tab, and repeat step 4 6. Click OK on the Connections tab.
Close IE and restart it.
Internet Proxy Navigation Speed -- If you notice noticeable delay in navigation to web sites after upgrading to IE7 and you are navigating through a Proxy, it may be due to Auto Detection problems.
Launch the Internet Control Panel by clicking "Internet Options" from IE's Tools menu
Navigate to the Connections tab
Under Local Area Network(LAN) settings choose LAN Settings
In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog, Uncheck "Automatically detect settings
You should no longer see a noticeable delay in browsing.
Internet Explorer Beta 2 Preview may sometimes take you to the standard MSN 404 page when you first load it. This is because the normal Internet Explorer first run startup page (located at
http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx) is experiencing technical issues. This is only a temporary issue and will not affect their use of the browser in any way.
Minimum requirement for RSS functionality--The RSS functionality requires Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) or higher. The latest service pack as of this writing is MSXML 3.0 SP7 which can be downloaded from here.

Functionality Removed and Changed in Internet Explorer Beta 2 Preview
This section describes previous Internet Explorer functionality that has been substantially modified or deleted in the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview release.
Scriptlets—Internet Explorer 7 disables Dynamic HTML (DHTML) scriptlets, by default. (Scriptlets were deprecated in Internet Explorer 5). They can be reenabled by system administrators, changing URLActions with the Internet Control Panel (INetCPl.) The INetCPL text should read "Allow Scriptlets." If your programs rely on scriptlets, we recommend that you use DHTML behaviors which are more efficient. Disabling scriptlets is part of our continued work to ensure that unsupported technology is deemphasized in Internet Explorer.
ActiveX controls--ActiveX controls are disabled by default in Internet Explorer Version 7. The ActiveX Input TYPE=FILE control no longer submits a fully-qualified path; it now submits only a filename. The ActiveX control for XEnroll certificate enrollment was removed from Windows Vista and replaced with a new control.
Channel Definition Format (CDF)--All CDF support was removed from Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview.
DirectAnimation--All DLLs to support the Internet Explorer DirectAnimation component were removed in Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Update.
XBM--Support for XBM, an imaging format designed for X-based systems, was deleted.
SSL--Support for weak SSL ciphers was removed from Windows Vista and support for SSLv2 was disabled for all Internet Explorer 7 platforms
Windowed Select--The Windowed Select Element was removed from Internet Explorer 7 because IE7 is not using the Windows API. This results in some cosmetic changes in padding. The animation associated with the popup is gone as well, and the popup simply pops up.
BASE Element--Internet Explorer 7 strictly enforces the BASE element rule, as documented in the HTML 4.01 standard. We no longer allow BASE tags outside of the HEAD of the document. The standard specifies that the base element must appear within the head of the document, before any elements that refer to an external source.
window.opener and window.close--Internet Explorer 7 no longer allows the window.opener trick to bypass the window.close prompt. Browser windows can't close themselves unless the windows were created in script. This security enhancement no longer allows browsing to a random site when the main browser window closes unexpectedly.
WWW-Auth--Internet Explorer 7 changes the precedence rules for WWW-Auth. Previous releases of Internet Explorer used the first header encountered. Internet Explorer 7 uses the first header except when the header is Basic. We use Basic auth if no other authentication mechanism is present.
HTTPOnly Cookies--HTTPOnly cookies can no longer be overwritten from scripts.
_SEARCH--The _SEARCH sidebar is no longer supported in Internet Explorer 7. It can be reenabled using a URLAction.
View Source--The view-source protocol no longer works in Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Update.
Gopher Protocol--Support for the Gopher protocol was removed at the WinINET level. (Gopher support was turned off by default in Internet Explorer 6.)
windowexternalImportExportFavorites()--windowexternalImportExportFavorites() has been removed in Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview.
Telnet--The telnet protocol handler is no longer supported in Internet Explorer.
SysImage URL Scheme--The SysImage URL Scheme has been removed from Internet Explorer.
Status Bar Scripting--Script will no longer be able to set the status bar text through the window.status and window.defaultStatus methods by default in the Internet and Restricted Zones. This small step helps prevent attackers from leveraging those methods to spoof the status bar. To revert to previous behavior (allowing script to set the status bar through window.status and window.defaultStatus) select the “Security” tab from “Internet Options” in the Control Panel. Select “Custom level…” for the Internet (or Restricted sites) zone. Find “Allow status bar updates via script” and change the setting to “Enable”.
