I actually don't know anything about LCD technology... What I do know is I like my monitor a lot, although there is the slightest ghosting, presumably because of the 16ms. I don't mind it at all, but lower is better I guess.
On the res issue, it's true it's better to play games fullscreen at the native LCD resolution. But with my 1600x1200 I actually end up playing my games in windowed mode. I actually prefer it and it means you won't lose quality when game settings are lower than 1600x1200. But yeah... if you want to play games fullscreen, it's best to match the native res to your graphics horsepower. Ideally, someone with a 7800GT playing FEAR might not want more than 1280x1024 in an LCD.
Playing in windowed mode I can get rid of distortion and have more desktop real estate. Which works great for me.
