DDR2 has a lot more potential than DDR, which has pretty much reached the limits of speed. That's why the industry is moving towards DDR2, even though DDR2 isn't incredibly faster than DDR at this point.
DDR2 667 is only worth it if you plan on overclocking, just like with regular memory. The only reason to get memory that is faster than what the motherboard/chipset can use is for overclocking.
