1) The only thing I can suggest is to just try it
2) Depending on the power supply, a better video card would help gaming performance and more RAM would help overall performance. Most higher end AGP cards need a 350W power supply or better. That 9600 just isn't going to play newer games very well, if at all
3) If he can afford it, a 7800GS would be the best option (and really the only one you can find these days). Again, you'll have to check on the power supply.

Also, searching that motherboard number brings up MSI as the manufacturer.
