External Gaming PVR having curios issues

My friend boguht an Adaptec Gamebridge 1410, and he's having issues with it. For background info, the gamebridge isa small device that plugs into USB that enables a person to play video game consoles on their PC, as well as hook up video devices (like a vcr) to a PC. You can also set it to record your game playing, and it has a TV tuenr so it can record tv, all using the Intervideo Home Theater software it comes with.

Now on to the problem. I hook it up, the PC reads it and the whole installation process goes easy and smooth as the instructions say it will. But then when you try to use it, things fall apart. To use it you have to start the Intervideo Home theater software that was installed when you installed the device. On my friend's computer, when you run the software, it opens and crashes immediantly. I've tried re-installing, no better. I did discover though, that if you log out and log in as administrator, the software runs fine, however once you get in the device still shows no video feed when it should be, the audio does work though.

I brought it all over to my house and installed it and my PC did the exact same thing my friend's did, crashes when I run it on my username (which is as an administrator), but if I log out, and log in as administrator, the software runs, but the video feed just shows lines across the screen. The audio does work though.

I figure I'll be contacting adaptec tech support and probly trying to send it back, but does anyone have any ideas?

both my friend's PC and mine are running windows xp pro, his PC being a pentiumD 820, with 1gb ram, 160gb HD, dvdrw, unknown intel mobo (its a dell dimenson 5150)

my PC specs are in my signature.
