Well.... this is kind of a bench. The whole reason for me upgrading to an X2 was so I could "crunch" movies and still use the computer for other things. Here's a simple test I did:

With the old unit 3500+, TMPGEnc would take right about 3 hours 40 minutes to crunch a typical 2 hour movie. The computer was pretty much useless for other tasks.

The 4800+ takes about 2 hours 25 minutes in single CPU mode. Naturally, doing other work still flies along while crunching.

Turning the multithread switch on in TMPGEnc, I crunched a movie in 1 hour 18 minutes, and still had enough horse power to check email, surf, and other light duty tasks.

Note that the crunch time will vary, as the crunch time includes removing the commercials, so if a movie has more commercials that I remove, it'll crunch even that much faster.
