Think of the UBCD as a single compiled source of the most commonly used programs for testing. Rather than maintaining a file/cd/floppy of each hard drive makers set up/diagnostic software, you have them all on one, easy to carry cd. Another example, memory testing. The UBCD contains several programs suitable to test memory but most folks develop a liking for one particular program. Personally, I prefer Memtest86+. Using the UBCD allows me to insert one CD in the drive to access all my test programs without having to change disks or shuffle thru a pile of floppy disks. Those are just two examples. The UBCD has many apps for other functions too.
