I always have and always will hold the opinion that if a kid is taught right from wrong from the very beginning, it doesn't matter what they watch, play, or listen to. I use myself as the prime example. My parents taught me right from wrong and that there are consequences for your wrong actions. I played whatever video games I wanted to, watched whatever tv programs and movies I wanted to, and listened to whatever music I wanted to. Playing Doom and Grand Theft Auto didn't make me go shoot a police officer, and listening to Ozzy Osbourne and Marilyn Manson didn't make me suicidal and want to jump off the top of my house. Why? Because I knew what was acceptable and what wasn't. If more parents would take notice of what's going on in their child's life and stop blaming their actions on tv and video games, the world would have a lot less violence caused by children. Guess that's asking too much though, for them to take some responsibility themselves and stop blaming others.
As for Sponge Bob, yeah, he's weird, but that's what makes him popular. Ever see a cartoon about a normal guy doing normal things that wasn't boring? Me neither.
