Buying all the parts for my pro tools machine today and I am taking all of the advice given here. Thanks very much GLC and SonicVanGuard.

And yes, you can say: "I told you so".

After running pro tools (for testing purposes only) on my existing machine with AMD processor and Windows Media Center Edition, it took a few weeks but I eventually did encounter a few errors and multiple freezes, blue screens, etc.

Also encountered the problem with not enough RAM when things got really complicated.
