OK, thanks again for all of the expert help.

I went with the ASUS P5W DH mainboard, Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU, Seagate sata 80 GB drive just for the OS (didn't need all that space but it was on sale for $49.00), Seagate Barracuda 400 GB storage drive, a super-quiet Lian Li 500 W PS, an inexpensive video card (ATI Radeon X550, PCI Express) and NEC 16x dual DVD RW. I bought a nice roomy aluminum case to accomodate my removable drive rail so I can change storage drives at will.

I'm not doing any video editing so the vid card was the least of my worries.
The whole setup goes quite nicely with my new Viewsonic wide screen LCD.

It's loading XP Pro as this is written.
