Vista uses what's been referred to as a "Virgin" Networking stack, Microsoft started anew with their networking stack in other words, which means --even though they've surely learned-- there will be repeated mistakes and new holes which make Vista vulnerable. Moreover there will still be bugs, despite the long period of beta testing which may or may not have been inconclusive, but to be fair the betas got better as they were released.
Vista is like every Windows version previous, it has its issues and it's safest to wait before adopting it for casual use. I would wait for news of a 'Service Pack 1' personally.
