Ubuntu Installation Help

I'm a complete n00b at linux
I put Damn Small Linux on a flash drive once and messed w/it for a day but thats all the linux experience I have

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 6.10 Desktop onto my newly built machine
(still trying to figure out a CPU Overheating problem)

I want to use it to get to know linux, learn the shell commands, learn to program, and set it up as a server

but my problem is(this'll seem a little stupid)
I can't figure out how to start the installer

I made the CD and I put it in
When it loaded I selected "Start or Install Ubuntu"
The Linux Kernal Loaded
The Ubuntu logo came up
Then, it went into the shell and said:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs) _

What do I do now?

Thanks in Advance,
Ryan
