Are there specific features on the new mouse that you cannot live without?

If the answer is no, then I'd suggest you uninstall the bundled mouse driver

Case in point, the Logitech drivers that came with my MX500 exhibited the same problems, but I sacrificed the ability to open the not-so-handy "application launcher" to get the middle-click back.

The standard windows mouse driver should install automatically, and you should be able to open tabs with middle-click again
