If you go the registry route make a registry backup before you start changing things.
I have an older version of AIM that I keep for those rare times when it's necessary.
I stripped all the adware (wild tangent, etc. out of it) and at the time I installed it I set it
not to load at start up.
I don't know if that's possible if you have the current version but go into preferences and check.
Real Player a has a start center in Preferences that you can disable.

Do you mean you have the Google toolbar or have you chosen one those new betas they're always releasing?
