That's normal. I've seen lots and lots of hard drives that look like that. That's just the way the hard drive casings are made.

Can you take a digital picture of this "defect" and attach the image to your next post. If we can see the "defect" we can tell you if you have a problem or not.

I honestly don't think there's a problem with the hard drive.
