I interpret Spearball's question as: Is it a 32 bit CPU that can "do" 64 bit instructions? Or is it a 64 bit that can do 32 bit?
My point is that in the few Intel articles I've read, I've never seen it stated as a 64 bit CPU. They always say stuff like (from above):
" Intel®64 is an extension to Intel's processors based on the IA-32 architecture."
To me that is saying it is a 32 bit that can do 64 bit stuff...
