Unhappy H-P Colorado 5-GB Tape Drive not working

Got a problem with a computer (Compaq DeskPro 6350) which has a Colorado 5 GB tape backup drive. The tape drive has been working perfectly since installation a few years ago, but today generates an error message (when loading the Backup program) stating that 'UISERVE.DLL Not Found'. This message occurs whether using the HP Colorado Backup or the Microsoft backup program.

Nothing else in the system has changed over the past several months. All cables are tight and seem to be OK. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but the tape drive shows not recognized by the installation program.

The tape is a slave on the second IDE channel, which the CD-ROM drive is Master; the HD is alone as master on the first IDE channel. The CD and HD work perfectly.

Under Device Manager, the tape drive shows as working properly; the parameters that are checked as active are: Enable Hardware Encryption, Disconnect, Synchronize Data Transfer, and Auto-Insert Notification.

Any ideas here? The tape has not been used in about a month or so , so it was a surprise to see today that it is not working.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance on this.
