When you get to a dos prompt using that A drive start up floppy exe you need to see if yuo can use it like recovery console and copy a fresh uncorrupted ntldr from your windows disk to overwrite the one you have. Doing a chkdsk repair I doubt is going to fix a boot file problem thats more of a fix a bad sector/check a drive utility. Fixmbr might do something for your boot up but best bet its the ntldr file being corrupted, or missing.
