well I believe its application purposes and the nVidia brand name mostly that drives the price.

3D API

OpenGL 2.1
ATI

OpenGL 2.0
OpenGL is used for making 3D stuff I know that, and DirectX is more used for running 3D. So Game wise I could see ATI being better, but for professional business I could see them going for nVidia. O and nVidia has lifetime warrenty while ATI has 3 years (I couldn't see needing longer then 3 though).
