can't create primary partition

I'm currently dual-booting OS X and Windows Vista on my Macbook. Currently I have 3 primary partitions. I'm trying to create a 4th so I can share my music between the two OS (so I won't have 2 libraries taking up space). I was able to create a 4th partition as a logical drive. However, I think OS X only recognizes primary partitions since it recognizes the Windows (C drive, but not my music (D drive. The problem is, I can't make that 4th partition into a primary one, it won't let me (only extended)! How do I fix this? Thanks in advance!
